Support Team TR75!
Will they win?
Support Team TR75 in "Race The Train" on 17th August 2024 to raise money for the Talyllyn Railway's 75 Appeal - to support the major redevelopment project across the Railway.
You can find out more about the project and why it is so important on our website: https://www.talyllyn.co.uk/heritage-fund/
"Race the Train" is an annual cross country running event that takes place in Tywyn, Gwynedd. It is organised by Tywyn Rotary Club, and attracts runners from all over the world. In the main event, runners compete to beat one of our steam trains over a distance of 14 miles!
You can find out more about our runners and which race they will be participating in below:
Nick Broster
"I'm Nick, the Heritage Project Manager at the Talyllyn Railway. I'm running the full Race the Train distance in support of the Talyllyn's 75 Appeal, which is raising money for the National Lottery Heritage Fund redevelopment. Thanks for supporting and see you on August 17th!"
Anna Gray
"Hi, I'm Anna! I've been a volunteer on the TR for 14 years, and I'll be running the Dolgoch Challenge, hoping to beat my time from last year! I'm not an avid runner, but I do enjoy participating in Race the Train. To be able to help raise money for the Talyllyn Railway this year makes the run feel even more worthwhile! Any donations would be most gratefully received!"
Julian Stow
"Hi I'm Julian, I'll be running the 10k this year! I last tried the 10k over 10 years ago and it seemed hard then. So if you like the idea of seeing a 52 year old office boy suffer, please sponsor generously. Alternatively, if new workshops, hostels and other things the Talyllyn Railway needs to equip itself for the next 75 years are more your thing, that would be a good reason to sponsor our team too."
Karen Willans
"Hi, I’m Kazza. As a Talyllyn volunteer living in Tywyn, Race the Train has always created a fantastic buzz about the town. I challenged myself to run the 3.5 mile Tynllwynhen route a couple of years ago, and have kept at it since. It’s the only incentive I have to run (I hate running!), so please help me support our railway to stay strong for the future!"
James Foster
"Hi, I'm James. I've been volunteering with the TR for 25 years. These days, I participate in the Dolgoch Challenge to stay fit. Race the Train is a fantastic event that unites our local community, and the 75 Appeal aims to future proof this bond. Please consider donating if you can."
Millie Gray
"Hi, I’m Millie. I started running through Couch-To-5k last year, and decided to set myself the target of running the Dolgoch challenge. I’ve been volunteering on the railway for 6 years, but I’ve been coming to Tywyn since I was a child, so I’m really pleased to be a part of the TR75 team! Please consider donating, and thank you for supporting us!"
Ed Crabb
"Hi, I’m Ed. I’m running the Dolgoch challenge this year for a bit of fun! I’ve been volunteering at the railway for 9 years and am pleased to be part of TeamTR 75, helping support the major redevelopments. Race the train is a fantastic event for the competitors and the railway, bringing lots of people into the area. Please donate generously if you can."
Becky Sharpe
"Hi, I'm Becky. I've been volunteering for 23 years on the Talyllyn, recently qualifying to drive the engines as well as leading the Hedgelaying gang. I'm keen to support fundraising to improve facilities for staff and volunteers and invest in the future of the railway. I run for fitness and my mental health but have never raced the train before! I'll be attempting the Dolgoch Challenge."
Jason Wells
"I'm Jason, I will be running the Dolgoch race this year. Having never been much of a runner in the past, I decided last year to start training to race the train for the first time this year. A fantastic event for volunteers, runners and passengers; the TR75 appeal will ensure events like this can continue into the future. Please consider donating, every little helps"
Zoe Hooton
"Hello I'm Zoe from HPA Architects and I’m the Conservation Architect of the proposed capital works and refurbishments of Talyllyn Railway. I'm a little terrified of the course after picking up an injury but I'm determined to try and help raise money for the TR75 team after being welcomed to such a special community."
Tony Sharpe
"Hi, I’m Tony! I started running in 2018 with Couch-to-5k and get a lot of enjoyment from it, regularly participating in Parkrun as well as a number of trail half marathons. This will be the third year I’ve run the full Race the Train course. It’s great to combine my love of running with my love of the Talyllyn Railway. Thank you for any support you can give to this worthy appeal!"
Huw Sheppard
"I have been a member of the society for most of my life and started working in the loco department 7 years ago. I'm running the Quarry challenge and hoping I'll be in a fit state to complete my loco turn on Sunday. The 75 appeal is very important for the railway so please consider donating to support us."
Graeme Wigglesworth
"Hi I'm Graeme, the engineering Manager at the Talyllyn. During lockdown I decided to give my liver a rest and went running, managing a huge 100m. Since then I have got back into running but sadly I managed to injure myself, hence I'm only doing the Dolgoch Challenge. If you donate it is greatly appreciated as it means we can keep the TR being an amazing place for generations to come"
We hope you'll support Team TR75 in "Race The Train" this year, to ensure a bright future for the Talyllyn Railway!
